“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
— Deuteronomy 6:4-9
The Armoury is not just a game. It is a tool which parents can use to teach their children the scriptures in a fun and interactive way. It is designed to breed familiarity with opening and handling the Word of God. It is suitable for families with children six years and up and can be tailored to each family’s abilities. It can be easily customised and adjusted to meet your family’s needs via the Game Master introducing new questions.
Players progress through the game by doing bible challenges and attacking a monster that represents Sin. On the way they put on the Armour of God, which represents faith in Christ, and become equipped to defeat Sin.
The challenges are designed to teach foundational Christian truths.
The Attack challenges are based on The 10 Commandments and the Law of God.
The Defence challenges are based on the Armour of God and defending key Christian doctrine (apologetics)
The Utility challenges are based on the Fruits of the Holy Spirit and are geared around knowing the location of books and verses in the Bible.
The account of the Judges opens with a telling verse: “After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel. Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals.” (Judges 2:10-11)
God had made a covenant with the children of Israel and they emphatically confessed that they were going to keep all of God’s law and not worship the gods of the Canaanites of which they land they were going. (Joshua 24:17-18)
They forgot one important thing. To teach their children what they had seen and heard. They neglected to teach their children who God is (The Attributes of God) and what God has done in by delivering them from the bondage of Egypt (Biblical History). As a result, we see the aftermath of such negligence in the account of the judges.
The Armoury is a board game that is designed to address these three aspects.
1) Encourage family lead Bible teaching and worship.
2) Give players a wide knowledge of the character and nature of God.
3 ) Give players a confidence to defend the word of God as a true historical account.
